Before Teaching Statement
I wrote my initial teaching statement four years ago. While I have updated it periodically, I have not made substantial revisions. The Searle Fellows Program now offers an opportunity for critical reflection and external feedback.
After Teaching Statement
The 2025–26 Searle Fellows Program’s teaching salons and small-group discussions provided an interactive setting to exchange experiences, address challenges, and share insights. The pedagogical literature on critical reflection in teaching offered a more grounded perspective, which helped me revise my teaching statement. After four years of teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, I drew on both my theoretical and practical experience to revise my teaching statement. I also found James Lang’s concise and insightful suggestions in his essay "4 Steps to a Memorable Teaching Philosophy" particularly stimulating.
